The Organization for Rehabilitation and Development in Amhara (ORDA) works to ensure women have equal rights and an equal voice next to the men in their communities. One of the main focuses of this program is to lower the amount of harmful traditional practices (HTPs), such as female genital cutting and establish anti-HTP programs. Ending these HTPs is important for many reasons. HTP is a violation of a woman’s rights. Female genital cutting can also lead to other diseases and infection. In Ethiopia, it happens to be a social norm. With this program, they are working to empower women and realize it is wrong. By creating support groups, it allows for women to go somewhere and be heard. The program is said to have touched more than 4 million people, making them more aware of the changes that need to be made in their country.
