The Ventura County, California District Attorney’s Office, as part of its senior crime unit has found a way to address home bound seniors, a population which is highly affected by elder maltreatment. Through this program they included some placemats designed for elder abuse prevention messages. Those messages have been included in home delivery meal program, such as “Meals on Wheels”. They also produce “Rx cards,” colorful paper strips with anti-fraud warnings that local pharmacists attach to prescriptions or place at checkout stands. The cards describe types of abuse, offers tips for prevention, and provide information about resources. This is a great program to help spread awareness to seniors, however a cruel caregiver can still find a way for the elder they take care of, to never see these messages. Despite this, it is still a step in the right direction.
