After much research and listening to personal stories, U.S. News has created a list of the five most desirable qualities in a nursing home. Often times, caregivers are expected to find a new home for their loved one or patient within a matter of one day. Finding a nursing home or rehabilitation center is not a walk in the park, and is not as simple as choosing what to eat for lunch. When searching for a home for a loved one, there are so many attributes to take into consideration. While a caregiver may only have to visit once a day, once a week, perhaps even once a month; a patient is moving into their new “forever home.” It is absolutely vital to make this decision with all aspects considered.
According to article, the first quality is personalization. It is important that the home makes it all about each resident. Secondly, the home should allow residents to make their own choices. It can be extremely mundane to be told what to wear, when to wake up, what to eat, etc. Thirdly, it is vital that the home is well-staffed. There should be plenty of nurses, doctors, counselors, aides, and other professionals at all times. Lastly, the home should have extended visiting hours and be flexible with this schedule, and have a plethora activities that are actually enjoyable to the patients.
